Calculation of fee
We make every effort to ensure that our services are competitively priced. Fees are generally based on the amount of time spent on an assignment, although this may vary depending on the nature and degree of complexity of the work involved. In simple and straightforward cases clients are quoted a fixed price in advance, if requested.
The firm`s lawyers are subject to the Norwegian Bar Association's Code of Conduct and in consumer matters we are also bound by the Norwegian Competition Authority's regulation governing the disclosure of the cost of services. This means that before an assignment commences the client will receive information on the applicable hourly rates, the way in which the fee is calculated, as well as an outline of our billing procedures. If the client so wishes we will conclude an agreement to provide continuous information on the costs incurred in a case.
Assignment confirmation
Each assignment is agreed upon by a specific formal confirmation describing the task as well as an estimate of the fees. Conditions beyond our control may however affect this. The client will therefore be given an outline of the running expenses as we go along.
No-cure-no-pay
Advokatdirekte AS does not take on work on a ”no-cure-no-pay” basis, and the rules of the Norwegian Bar Association preclude us from agreeing that our fee should be based solely on a percentage or proportion of the subject matter or outcome of the case.
Tax
For all legal advice there is value added tax of 25%. This is always specified on the invoice.
Corverage of fee
You may be entitled to legal aid granted by the Public Authorities. This may be a full or a partial coverage of the lawyer’s fee depending on the nature of the case and your income. Specifically, if you or you and your spouse/partner have a joint income of less than NOK 230.000 per annum and a fortune less than NOK 100.000. The income limit for the household is NOK 345.000,-. Some insurance schemes may cover the lawyer’s fee. Most home insurance will cover up to a total of NOK 100.000. The own risk is usually between 3.000 and 4.000 with an increment of 20% of the fee beyond this.
We will assist you in interpreting your coverage in this respect.
